Trying to sell my timeshare in Florida

Does anyone have any advice on selling timeshares?? I have one in Ft. Lauderdale that I have no idea what to do with.. I dont use it and I owe over 10k on the mortgage.  I've talked to several timeshare companies to try to sell it but keep being told that it is worth much less than what I owe on it, and I cannot find any interested buyers. I do not want it because I just cant afford it anymore. Any advice would be much appreciated!!!

  • Same thoughts as Jayne. Try to generate some income to offset your loss. Do a search for property managers who do short term rentals in Ft. Lauderdale. Also local realtors who do rentals might have some referrals for you. I know that short term condo rentals are big in FL. I would post an ad on Craigslist as a Vacation Rental as well.

    Hope that helps!

  • Wow that is some good advice.
  • I"m always amazed and befuddled when I hear stories like this. I mean, It's not like buying a dress or a book and then deciding you don't really like it. If I could have a dollar for everyone who buys something expensive without knowing why I'd probably be a millionaire. But that seems to be human nature- buy first and think second {:o(

Have you tried renting your weeks to some other people to pay for the mortgage?  Must be alot of people interested in Ft. Lauderdale.  Sorry to say that it is worth much less but prices have dropped on alot of things.  I think your best bet would be to try and keep for a while and then try to sell.  Maybe take a vacation :).
